Transporting you to a mountain-top experience
The Gornergrat Bahn, a 100% subsidiary of BVZ Holding AG since 2005, takes visitors up the Gornergrat adventure destination peak (3089 m.a.s.l.) by means of a 9.3-km-long cogwheel train that covers 1469 meters in altitude difference and departs from Zermatt. The Gornergrat is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Switzerland with its views of 29 peaks, including the Matterhorn, that soar over 4000 meters in height. Along with the “Glacier Express”, it is also one of the top trademark brands of BVZ Holding. The Gornergrat Bahn transports around 1.6 million visitors from Zermatt up the Gornergrat each year.
The first electric cogwheel train in Switzerland and the highest open-air cogwheel railway in Europe is a tourist train that combines a sense of adventure with international appeal. After an initial increase in the attractiveness of the Gornergrat Peak, the quality of the overall experi-ence is to be strengthened even more. Among other things, an all-weather attraction on the Gornergrat is planned that will enable visitors to experience the mountain even when the weather does not cooperate. The project is being driven forward together with the Burgergemeinde Zermatt (Matterhorn Group Holding).
